Clinching process is a viable alternative to spot welding. Clinching joins sheet metal by drawing and forming the sheet materials into an interlock.This Clinching process improves production time and cost while eliminating welding. It is an environmentally-friendly process – no sparks, fumes or heat.
Clinching process joins 2 or more layers with combined thickness from 0.4mm to 6.0mm. A special punch and die are used to form a strong interlocking joint within the metals themselves. The result of the process is a button shaped extrusion on the die side of the assembly, and a small cavity on the punch side. The joint is comprised wholly of the sheet metals that were joined -no external welding material is required.
